Surround Yourself with God’s Word

Filling Your Life and Home with Scripture

In today’s busy and noisy world, it’s easy to become distracted, discouraged, or overwhelmed. Everywhere we turn, there are voices competing for our attention. But in the middle of it all, God lovingly invites us to slow down, spend time with Him, and fill our hearts with His Word.

In Deuteronomy 6:6–9, God instructed His people:

"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

These instructions show that God's Word was never meant to be limited to a specific time or place. Instead, it is meant to be woven into every part of our lives—not just during church services or personal devotions, but into our hearts, our homes, our conversations, and our daily routines.

He knows that what fills our minds ultimately shapes our hearts. When we become consumed by worry, negativity, or the pressures of the world, it becomes harder to keep our focus on Him. But when we intentionally surround ourselves with His Word, His truth renews our minds, strengthens our faith, and helps us remain grounded in His promises.

So how can we surround ourselves with God's Word in our everyday lives? Here are a few simple and practical ways to keep His truth close to our hearts and minds each day.

1. Read the Bible Daily

Since God's Word is meant to be woven into our daily lives, one of the best places to start is by spending time in the Bible each day. As we read scripture, we come to know God more deeply, discover His love and faithfulness, understand His promises, and grow in our relationship with Him.

If possible, try setting aside a specific time each day to read His Word. Many people find that beginning the day with scripture and prayer helps them draw closer to God and prepare their hearts for the day ahead. However, if your schedule is busy, don't be discouraged. You don't need a perfect routine or hours of study. Even a few quiet moments in God's Word can bring encouragement, wisdom, and peace to your day.

There are many ways to build a habit of reading scripture. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Read one Psalm or Proverb each morning.

  • Follow a Bible reading plan.

  • Read through one book of the Bible, taking one chapter at a time.

  • Start or end your day with a short devotional.

  • Keep a journal to record verses that stand out to you and what God is teaching you.

  • Take time to learn the meaning and context of the passages you read.

  • Read scripture with your spouse, family, or a friend so you can encourage one another and grow together in God's Word.

Consistency matters more than perfection. The goal isn't to rush through chapters or check Bible reading off your to-do list, but to spend intentional time with God and allow His Word to shape your thoughts, transform your heart, and deepen your relationship with Him. Even small, consistent moments in scripture can have a lasting impact on your faith journey.

2. Meditate on God’s Word Throughout the Day

Reading scripture is important, but meditating on it allows God's truth to take deeper root in our hearts. Rather than quickly reading a passage and moving on, biblical meditation invites us to slow down, reflect on God's Word, and consider how it applies to our daily lives.

God emphasized the importance of meditation in Joshua 1:8:

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."

Meditating on scripture is more than simply reading words on a page. It involves dwelling on God's truth, allowing it to shape our thoughts, attitudes, and actions throughout the day.

For example, during anxious moments, you might reflect on Isaiah 41:10:

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand"

Take a moment to think about what this promise means. Instead of focusing on your fears, remind yourself that God is with you and that His presence is greater than anything you face. Returning to this truth throughout the day can bring peace, strengthen your faith, and help you respond with confidence rather than fear.

Here are a few simple ways to keep scripture before you throughout the day:

  • Write meaningful verses on sticky notes

  • Save Bible verses as your phone wallpaper or lock screen

  • Listen to scripture while driving, walking, or doing household chores

  • Memorize verses that encourage your heart

  • Place Bible verses where you'll see them often, such as on your desk, mirror, or refrigerator

These simple reminders help keep God's Word close throughout the day and encourage you to meditate on His promises regularly. As you do, His Word begins to shape the way you think, speak, and live.

3. Fill Your Home with Scripture-Inspired Wall Art

Another meaningful way to keep God's Word close each day is by displaying scripture-inspired wall art in your home.

Our surroundings have a quiet but powerful influence on our thoughts, emotions, and focus. When we place God's Word where we can see it regularly, we create daily opportunities to pause, reflect on His promises, and refocus our hearts on His truth.

As we saw earlier in Deuteronomy 6:9, God instructed His people:

"You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

Although we may not literally write Scripture on our doorposts today, filling our homes with Scripture-inspired wall art reflects the same principle of keeping God's truth before our eyes and close to our hearts.

Whether placed in a bedroom, living room, kitchen, office, or prayer corner, scripture prints can provide encouragement throughout the day and help keep our focus on what is true and eternal.

Ideas for Displaying Scripture Wall Art

There are so many meaningful ways to incorporate scripture into your home decor while creating spaces that inspire faith and peace.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Place encouraging verses in your living room

  • Add peaceful scripture prints to your bedroom

  • Decorate your office or workspace with uplifting words

  • Make your kitchen and dining room feel warm and welcoming with scripture-inspired wall art that reminds your family of God’s goodness and love during everyday moments together

  • Display faith-inspired art near entryways to warmly welcome guests

The things we listen to, watch, and focus on each day can shape our thoughts, attitudes, and spiritual growth. Beyond spending time in Scripture, we can also choose content and relationships that nourish our faith and help us grow closer to God.

You can:

  • Listen to or play worship music that encourages your heart and fills your day with praise.

  • Follow Christian podcasts or devotionals that help you learn and grow spiritually.

  • Watch sermons and Bible teachings that deepen your understanding of God's Word.

  • Spend time with mature believers who can offer wisdom, guidance, and encouragement.

As we intentionally choose things that point us toward Him, we become more aware of His presence, remember His promises, and continue growing in faith.

4. Be Intentional About What You Fill Your Mind With

Create a Personal Prayer Space

If you have the space, consider setting aside a quiet area in your home where you can regularly spend time with God. It doesn't need to be elaborate or expensive. A simple chair, small table, or quiet corner can become a special place to read the Bible, pray, and seek God's guidance.

You might include:

  • Your Bible

  • A journal or devotional

  • Worship music

  • Soft lighting or candles

  • Scripture-inspired wall art featuring verses that encourage your heart

Having a dedicated place to meet with God can help you slow down, set aside distractions, and spend intentional time in His presence.

Final Thoughts

Choosing to immerse yourself in God's Word is a daily decision that draws you closer to Him. Whether through reading the Bible, meditating on Scripture, filling your home with His Word, or making choices that encourage your faith, each step helps keep your heart and mind anchored in His truth.

As you continue to spend time in God's Word, you will come to know Him more deeply, trust His promises more fully, and find the wisdom, strength, and encouragement you need for each day.

So open your Bible, treasure His Word, and allow its truth to transform your heart, guide your decisions, and shape the way you live each day.
